Base camp on Highway 1, 17-Mile Drive and the Carmel coast
South of Carmel Highlands, cell service stops being reliable, so we agree arrival times, a radio channel and a base camp contact before the day rather than trying to reach you from a turnout. We need a level, wind-protected space with shade: a cast trailer, a honeywagon room, the production office tent, a hotel room if base camp sits at a lodge, or a corner of a catering tent. We do not need mains power. We do need somewhere secure for sharps and supplies, and a place for sharps disposal that is not craft services. On 17-Mile Drive, gate access and a vehicle pass for our staff are things production arranges with the venue, not something we can talk our way through. Highway 1 drive times from Carmel run longer than the map suggests and closures happen, so we build a buffer into our arrival and tell you what it is.
What we bring for cast, and what we bring for crew
Crew days are mostly fluid and B vitamins. The Basic Boost, 1000 ml over about 40 minutes, is $160. Myer's Cocktail, about 35 minutes, is $175 to $195. A Methylcobalamin B-12 Energy Boost is $35 and takes ten minutes, which is what most grip and electric departments choose because it does not cost them a break. Lipo B, MIC plus B12, is $50 over 15 minutes. For cast, the 17 Mile Performance Hydration runs $380 for 1000 ml over 45 minutes or $310 for 500 ml over 35 minutes, and the Forever Young beauty drip is $315 over 35 minutes. The Big Sur Immune Booster is $300 over 40 minutes and is requested most often late in a long shoot, though we will not tell you it prevents anything. Licensure, screening and the paperwork production will ask for
Every infusion is placed and monitored by a licensed physician assistant. Each person completes an intake, a medical and medication history and a consent form before anything is started, and that screening is individual even when a whole department is booked at once. Anyone we should not treat is declined on the spot and told why, privately. We do not treat minors on set. We are also not your set medic and we do not replace one. We carry what we need for our own procedures, not for on-set injuries, and if something happens outside our scope we hand it to your medic or to emergency services. Production offices usually want documentation before we can be added to a call sheet, and the specific certificates and insurance paperwork we can supply are confirmed when we quote the job, so send that request with your first email rather than the week of.
Booking a shoot, and how production pays for it
Send dates, locations, headcount and whether this is a single day or a run. Mobile visits carry a travel fee on top of the treatment price, quoted once we know where base camp sits, because a Carmel Rancho office park and a turnout south of Bixby Bridge are not the same drive. Most productions pay centrally against a list the UPM approves, which is cleaner than collecting from a whole department in a catering line; we can also take payment from individuals if that is how your budget works. We are self-pay only and do not bill insurance, so nothing here runs through a workers' compensation carrier. If you are holding several days, tell us the whole run at once. Availability on the peninsula tightens hard around Car Week in August and the Big Sur International Marathon in April, and a shoot that overlaps either needs to be reserved earlier than one that does not.
